Dear Colleagues!

In recent years, the treatment options for benign and malignant rectal tumors have undergone significant changes and developments. The background to this change is, on the one hand, the effective irradiation and drug treatment of malignant tumors, and on the other hand, the technological and technical developments in surgery.

Within the minimally invasive surgery of rectal tumors, transanal techniques (TEM, TEO, TAMIS) represent a special area. The indication area of ​​the procedures, which were previously used specifically only for the removal of benign, small rectal tumors, seems to be expanding: both in terms of size, circumferential extent, height location, and also by crossing the benign-malignant border, the area of ​​TAMIS surgeries has broadened.

At the Department of Surgery, Transplantation and Gastroenterology of Semmelweis University, as a training center for transanal minimally invasive rectal surgery, we are organizing a theoretical and practical (supplemented with a live surgical demonstration) advanced training course to explore the technical frontiers of TAMIS surgery.
During the advanced training, we will discuss the currently accepted, professionally established indication areas, the technological conditions of TAMIS surgery, as well as local excision performed in the intramuscular layer (imTAMIS), and TAMIS surgeries performed to confirm complete or near-complete clinical remission following neoadjuvant chemo-irradiation. We have set ourselves the goal of presenting the possibilities of robot-assisted TAMIS surgery in addition to the classic TAMIS surgery.

We welcome all colleagues who deal with deep rectal tumors, are interested in TAMIS surgeries, have already performed them, or wish to perform TAMIS surgeries in the future, to the professional meeting.

This year’s invited speaker of the advanced TAMIS Course is Dr. Roel Hompes MD PhD (Amsterdam).
